Expanded Learning Opportunity Program

The Key to Success is YOU

Our Mission

We strive to improve students’ school experience by providing quality emotional support, individual and team building sports, and immersive STEAM projects.

Additionally, we will reinforce and provide additional academic support for disadvantaged students.

Social Emotional Learning

Sofos uses Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum provided by Second Step (secondstep.org) – including the additional Bullying Prevention Unit.

All staff undergoes training through Second Step before using the curriculum in each classroom.

We integrate the program daily with writing prompts, classroom discussions, and group activities.

Pickleball

Along with our daily outdoor activities and recess, we coordinate our weekly schedule to accommodate 45-minute Pickleball sessions. Students will improve their hand eye coordination,  team work, classmate bonding, and physical state of being.

Pickleball’s popularity has increased over 40% in the past two years. There are over 10 million people in the United States who play, and colleges have even begun to form teams.  Players have begun playing pickleball at younger ages and it seems as if the sport will continue to grow.

Steam Activities

On extended days including summer, we will engage students in hands-on, interactive experiments and projects on topics including:

  • Construction
  • Engineering
  • Impressionist painting
  • Non-traditional mediums of sculpture

Academic Support

We will provide assistance with homework and supplementary material that will aid students with current classroom curriculum.

Additional support will also be given for projects and test preparations.
